The National Italian American Bar Association (NIABA) was founded in 1983, by five distinguished attorneys from New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Detroit and Miami for the purpose of advancing the interests of the Italian-American legal community, and to improve the administration of justice. In doing so, we are uniquely connected to our heralded, unparalleled cultural history. The organization has grown to include attorneys and local Italian-American bar associations throughout the United States and the world.
NIABA has established relationships with local Italian American bar associations in many States and major cities throughout the United States in order to share information, coordinate activities and provide referral networks.
NIABA is actually an international organization of attorneys, judges, law students and legal professionals engaged in activities that promote and encourage Italian culture. It offers a chance to meet, collaborate with, and develop invaluable relaƟonships with colleagues throughout the United States, Canada, Italy, Australia, and Argentina, among other countries throughout the world. It currently has plans to establish ties with the British Italian Advocates and other Italian organizations in South America.
NIABA also works closely with other Italian American organizations such as the Conference of Presidents of Major Italian American Organizations, the Italian American Alliance, the Italian Sons and Daughters of America, the National Italian American Foundations, and others to promote and celebrate our heritage.
In addition to its various programs, NIABA offers the Italian American community a national legal voice in matters involving social justice, guarding against stereotyping and defamation, and discrimination. It promotes qualified Italian American candidates to positions in the judiciary, universities and governmental offices to ensure fair representation of Italian Americans.
